Inventor of planet's greenest wind turbine to speak on green jobs at World Wind Energy Conference, Cairo.
October 19, 2011, Toronto ON – Inventor and manufacturer of the multi-award-winning Windancer horizontal-axis small wind turbine, Sharolyn Vettese, is looking forward to joining the information exchange on increasing the use of wind power worldwide at the 10th World Wind Energy Conference (WWEC).
Tapping into North African wind-resource-rich deserts and coastlines is also on the agenda at the WWEC in Cairo, Egypt.
Ms Vettese will deliver her paper titled What are the types of jobs that can be created in the new green economy? at the WWEC on Tuesday November 1, 2011 between 16.50 to 18.50 at the Al Masah Hotel, Nasr City.
In her presentation she will be discussing how small wind turbine companies like Wind Simplicity can provide local manufacturing jobs. She will also outline the role businesses, governments and consumers can play in driving job growth in the small wind sector.
"The renewable energy targets of North African countries like Egypt are commendable. Decentralized renewable energy projects using small wind turbines can also be built to maximize the use of excellent wind resources and generate renewable energy onsite, minimizing loss of electricity via transmission," Ms. Vettese said.
"Wind energy is unique in that it can be generated with negligible use of precious and finite water resources, which would be a great advantage to this region."
As likely the only manufacturer who has chosen to use aluminium rotor blades instead of fiberglass, Ms Vettese said she made this decision for environmental reasons.
Not using fiberglass meant reducing the use and contamination of water in wind-blade production. It meant minimizing the use of hazardous chemicals and their impact on workers and the environment as well. The Windancer’s wind blades also do not need to be cleaned with water.
Unlike composite fiber blades, the Windancer's aluminium blades can be recycled over and over because aluminum has a cradle-to-cradle life cycle and does not lose its properties when recycled. Aluminium is also easy to recycle and these factors mean it is less likely to end up in landfill or in an incinerator.
"Countries that invest in a green energy economy will create green jobs in these times of economic uncertainty. Green jobs are satisfying, and especially in manufacturing, will provide prosperity for our century."
She added that work in the alternative-energy sector was rewarding and that rewarding jobs were the key to future social stability, especially now when youth unemployment was a priority. "Wind Simplicity designs, manufactures, installs and maintains the Windancer small wind turbine. Providing a turn-key system, the company creates employment in rural Ontario, Toronto, and internationally," said Ms. Vettese.
"Around 50 suppliers are affected by our product; when we grow, they grow too. Wind Simplicity's manufacturing jobs can help provide the same prosperity in the 21st Century as the auto sector did in the 20th Century but with an even smaller environmental footprint. That's because of the sustainable life cycle and production of the Windancer™ small wind turbine."
